The Hip Society and The Knee Society Announce New Executive Committee to Lead CCJR

The Hip Society and The Knee Society, which last month announced their acquisition of Current Concepts in Joint Replacement (CCJR), have announced the program’s new Executive Committee.
 
Daniel J. Berry, M.D., Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.) will serve as senior director. Adolph V. Lombardi, Jr., M.D., Joint Implant Surgeons Inc. (New Albany, Ohio) and William J. Maloney III, M.D., Stanford University (Stanford, Calif.), will serve as deputy directors. Drs. Berry and Maloney are past presidents of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and The Hip Society. Dr. Berry also served as president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and chair of the board of the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR). Dr. Lombardi is a past president of The Hip Society, The Knee Society, as well as a co-founder and current president of Operation Walk USA. All three have a record of presenting at CCJR meetings.  
 
The Societies established extensive criteria for qualification including an uncontested investment in the continued success of CCJR. This created a competitive application process, with many letters of interest received from highly qualified members of The Hip Society and The Knee Society.  The newly appointed directors will serve a multi-year term to ensure the stability and growth of CCJR’s success.

The directors will assume their roles effective immediately. The Executive Committee will work in partnership with Dr. Greenwald and his Current Concept Institute staff over the next 16 months, beginning with the upcoming Spring 2019 CCJR in Cleveland, Ohio (May 8-11), to ensure a full and seamless transition of leadership by July 1, 2020.

For nearly 40 years, the CCJR course has remained the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. Created by A. Seth Greenwald, DPhil(Oxon), and presented by the Current Concepts Institute, this prestigious program has taken place each December and May and includes an esteemed faculty, extensive exhibitor participation and highly anticipated educational curriculum. These two live events have consistently attracted over 3,000 delegates from more than 60 countries on an annual basis.

The Current Concepts in Joint Replacement (CCJR) meetings were initiated in 1983 by A. Seth Greenwald, DPhil(Oxon), as an alternative to writing National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants to fund orthopedic research activities focused on degenerative arthritis and joint replacement. The professional need for orthopedic education in the then evolving practice of hip and knee arthroplasty became apparent and the CCJR meetings set about defining the template for excellence. The Current Concepts Institute has continued this initiative with the mission to provide contemporary education which assists health care professionals and the industries that support them with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcome. 
 
The Hip Society was established in 1968 by Frank Stinchfield, M.D., as a by-invitation only academic society together with twenty elite hip surgeons. The mission of The Hip Society is to advance the knowledge and treatment of hip disorders to improve the lives of our patients. The vision of The Hip Society is to lead in the discovery and dissemination of knowledge related to disorders of the hip. 
 
The Knee Society was established in 1983 as a forum for intellectual exchange of concepts in total knee arthroplasty. The main initial goal of the founding group was to bring together the scientific information related to total knee arthroplasty. The mission of The Knee Society is to advance the care of patients with knee disorders through leadership in education and research.
